Birchfield residents to have their say

Residents in the Birchfield area of Yeovil will be able to have their say on what improvements they would like to see in their neighbourhood, when the Birchfield Area Residents Association hold a consultation event on Monday 25 March. The consultation will take place at Monmouth Hall from 3pm to 7pm. Residents are invited to come along and give their suggestions for improvements for the area, for example what the community needs, what would make it a better place to live or possibly any training or activities they would like. Councillor resignations in Mendip

Mendip District CouncilTwo Mendip District Council councillors have stepped down leaving vacancies in these Mendip wards. Councillors Wayne Closier and Sue Cook have both decided to resign as district councillors. Wayne Closier, who was a Conservative councillor for the Ashwick, Chilcompton and Stratton ward, decided to leave his position at the start of March, while Shepton West Liberal Democrat councillor Sue Cook stepped down last week. Bringing Mendip’s empty homes back into use

Mendip District CouncilMendip District Council is stepping up its efforts to bring the area’s empty homes back into use by launching a new strategy to tackle the problem. The three-year strategy, which was agreed at a meeting of the Council’s Cabinet on Monday (11th March), sets out how the council will bring empty properties back into use to provide decent and affordable accommodation, mainly in the private rented sector. Empty Homes Agency statistics show that there were 1,441 empty homes across Mendip in 2011, of which 445 had been empty for at least six months. Full Story: Read More
