CHAC and the Egyptian Shabti

Shabti2A little over a month ago an Egyptian statuette was discovered in one of the South Somerset Community Access Centre (CHAC) museum stores at Lufton Yeovil, found in an inconspicuous cigar box. The cigar box contained a note which revealed that it was a genuine Egyptian artefact as the owner had it confirmed from the curator of antiquities at the Cairo Museum, from whom he obtained the artefact in 1913. Saving historic buildings in South Somerset

Whitestaunton ManorSouth Somerset is very rich in heritage and has more listed buildings than almost every other district in the Country. The District Council’s Conservation Team maintains a heritage at risk register and works with owners to improve the condition of buildings. Currently there are over 60 buildings on the register, ranging from industrial sites to church yard memorials, all at risk of further deterioration and some requiring urgent attention.
