‘Flights of Fancy’ Somerset Textile Artist’s first solo exhibition at Midsomer Quiliting, Bath

AK001 Barn Owl in the Moonlight Final (2) smaller‘Flights of Fancy’ by Angela Knapp. In this, her first solo exhibition, Angela presents a body of work inspired by her love for, and fascination with birds. In late 2014 after many years of experimenting with fabric, Angela entered the Midsomer Quilting 12×12 ‘Music’ themed exhibition. Her submission – ‘Blackbird’ (Singing in the Dead of Night), sparked a new creative journey for her as a textile artist, culminating in this unique series of images. Museum of Somerset Collections Inspire South West Artists

Sumorsaete Ealle by Rita FiskThe Museum of Somerset’s outstanding collections have been providing South West artists with the inspiration behind two upcoming exhibitions in Taunton. Opening on Saturday 10 October, The South West Textile Group’s exhibition is titled ‘Imprints’, with 35 members showing work across a range of techniques including stitching, quilting, felting, weaving, printing, dyeing and mixed media. Some of the museum’s stand-out objects provided inspiration, including the Roman Low Ham mosaic, which depicts a tragic love story, and the Frome Hoard, the second largest collection of Roman coins ever discovered in Britain.
