Food Event 1A local food show – The Only Way is Local – is to be held at Haynes International Motor Museum on 17 September 2014. The event will run from 10.30am – 1.30pm. With just days to go and 40 stall holders booked, the event is gearing up to showcase Somerset’s high quality food and drink producers. Presented by South Somerset District Council with the backing of European funding (Interreg 2 Seas Fish & Chips project), the food show is promoting local food and drink producers to a wider consumer market, helping them to make business connections and increase their sales and market reach. Community Shop set to open in Norton-sub-Hamdon after grant awarded

SSDCNorton-sub-Hamdon is set to benefit from a Community Shop after being awarded a grant by South Somerset District Council’s Area North Committee. A community grant to the sum of £9,346 was awarded on Wednesday’s (27 August) Committee meeting to Norton-sub-Hamdon Community Land Trust which will help towards the start-up costs of acquiring and operating the village post office and shop. Growing gold for pollinators

Yeovil in bloomPerhaps you have noticed a difference in the floral displays this year? A bright display of gold perhaps? This year, South Somerset District Council (SSDC) and Yeovil in Bloom has been growing gold for pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Bloomers across the country have been displaying gold flowers to attract pollinators as part of an initiative to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Britain in Bloom. Gold flowers planted in and around Yeovil include sun flowers, marigolds and rudbeckia. Full story: Read more
