Remembering display sets up shop in Yeovil Town Centre

Q_081808A remembering display on the First World War has been set up by South Somerset District Council’s Heritage Team in the old Whittard’s shop next to Costa Coffee in the Quedam Shopping Centre, which helps explain how the war began. The display, designed by the Imperial War Museum, will be in the shop from today (Thursday 23 October) until Wednesday 12 November. Scare and save this Halloween

somerset_wasteWith millions of pumpkins being sold in the days before All Hallows’ Eve, some great ways to save cash and have fun are being suggested by Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP). SWP is urging Halloween revellers to use every bit of the pumpkin and recycle anything left over, from making the traditional Jack O’Lantern to turning the flesh and seeds into tasty snacks. Comedy hits South Somerset with Hamdon Ha! Ha!

Tom GloverSSDC has provided £500 grant-aid to help bring on a new comedy festival for the Ham Hill area. Hamdon Ha! Ha! is taking place in Norton-sub-Hamdon which has already hosted a series of successful stand-up comedy sessions over the past year. The concept of a comedy festival extending over several days is an innovation for South Somerset that builds on the popularity of the one-off events held so far.
