SCHOOL GIRLS WALK 10K FOR EDUCATION CHARITY

World Wide Walk 2Students and staff from Bruton School for Girls took part in a 10k sponsored ‘World Wide Walk’ through the Somerset countryside on Friday 11th October to support girls who are denied access to education. A total of 88 girls, accompanied by teachers, the headmistress and three dogs, walked to raise money and awareness for the International Day of the Girl. The walk took the girls on a circular route around Wyke over fields and styles.  They completed the 10k within three hours returning to school in time for a well-deserved hot lunch. Langport Welfare Benefits Surgery set to open

SSDCA welfare benefits ‘drop-in’ surgery is set to open to the public in Langport on Tuesday 29 October. It’s an opportunity for residents to drop in and seek advice or speak with a Welfare Advice Officer. The surgery has been organised by South Somerset District Council so that residents can check what benefits they may be entitled to, receive help in applying and review “what if” calculations if their circumstances change. Groundbreaking agreement aims to provide a major boost for sport in Wells

Mendip District CouncilA major new outdoor sports campus could be established in Wells thanks to a groundbreaking agreement between Mendip District Council and leading sports clubs in the city. Mendip District Council’s Cabinet is due to consider the proposals at its meeting on Monday 11th November. If approved, the site, on land between the A371 and Elm Close in Haybridge, would see new, modern sports facilities established for a number of local outdoor clubs, including the varied activities at Wells Sports Club, such as football, tennis, netball and archery, and Wells Rugby Club.
