New calendar celebrates Yeovil’s past

The Community Heritage Access Centre (CHAC) has published the 2017 Yeovil calendar. Now in its fourth year, the calendar is produced by South Somerset District Council’s Heritage Team and supported by the Arts Council. This year’s calendar has a theme of celebration as Heritage Information Assistant, Joseph Lewis, explained: “With the 2017 calendar, we emphasise people coming together for national and social occasions and highlight some intriguing Yeovil scenes and industries. Timely donation of Yeovil-made clock to CHAC

DSCN1154A working clock which was made in Yeovil has recently been donated to South Somerset District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre (CHAC) after spending more than 75 years at Preston Road Methodist Church in Yeovil. The clock was made by clockmaker and jeweller William James Sherriff of Market Street, Yeovil and was donated to the Methodist Church when it opened in 1938. Full story: Read more

Large donation leaves CHAC staff wanting more information

P4538.30 C E WebbStaff at South Somerset District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre (CHAC) have been left wanting to know more information about a recent donation, after it included photographs of a First World War survivor who lived in Yeovil. CHAC received a large donation of an archive concerning Betty Webb who was active in Yeovil Baptist Church. She was born in Andover and the family moved to Yeovil when she was a child.
