Encouraging eagerness amongst collectors to buy at Lawrences’ recent sale of silver and vertu ensured a string of high prices, in many cases confounding all reasonable expectations. A massive iron bound oak chest, specially strengthened to withstand the rigours of a sea voyage to Australia in the 1860’s, contained over 360 ounces of silver. The Bishop’s Palace to Receive Royal Visitor

The Bishop’s Palace in Wells is to receive Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall on Friday 21st October as part of a charity event for Beanstalk at the Wells Festival of Literature. The Duchess will be received by The Right Reverend Peter Hancock, Bishop of Bath & Wells who will take the chance show her some of the public rooms and the private Chapel of this unique medieval palace.
