New food recycling service for schools
New food waste collections are now being offered to local authority and academy schools throughout Somerset. The new schools food waste collection service comes as the final stages of construction are underway on Somerset’s own anaerobic digestion (AD) plant. Using wheeled bins provided by Viridor with Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP), the new service is intended for larger schools and those with canteens that produce more food waste. LANGPORT SURVEY SUPPORTS IRISH BAG TAX
More than 90 per cent of shoppers want to rid an historic Somerset town of plastic carrier bags, according to a survey. The finding comes as Northern Ireland this week [Monday 8 April] joined Wales in forcing retailers to charge for single use plastic bags.
