A torchlight procession around the hill fort marked 5 November on Ham Hill, ending at the Stone Circle with a massive bonfire that lit up the night sky. 250 people took part in the free event thought up by the rangers following the popularity of the summer 2012 Jubilee beacon. Area North awards £500 grant for refurbishment
Youngsters in Martock are enjoying the benefits of a refurbished catering trailer thanks to grants awarded by South Somerset District Council and Martock Parish Council. ArchiesXtra provides youngsters in Martock with a focus for meeting on a weekly basis. The project set-up and run by Martock Christian Fellowship (MCF), meets every Thursday evening at the Recreation Ground where hot and cold refreshments are served from the catering trailer. Sherborne Jazz ~ ASQ ~ Sat 9th Nov ~ Plume of Feathers, Sherborne
On Saturday 9th November, Sherborne Jazz Club will host ASQ ~ The Arabella Sprot Quintet at the Plume of Feathers, Half Moon street, Sherbone, DT9 3LN. In 2012 Arabella was awarded both an Entry Scholarship to Birmingham Conservatoire and a Postgraduate Performance Award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund to study for a Masters in Jazz Performance. This gig presents the fruits of that labour, with a new line-up, new compositions, and new arrangements ranging from solo saxophone to suites inspired by literature. The quintet features Arabella on tenor saxophone, Ric Yarborough on Drums, James Banner on bass, Steve Tromans on Piano and Nick Dewhurst on trumpet. Doors open 7.30pm.
