Area North awards £500 grant for refurbishment

Archies Xtra MartockYoungsters in Martock are enjoying the benefits of a refurbished catering trailer thanks to grants awarded by South Somerset District Council and Martock Parish Council.

ArchiesXtra provides youngsters in Martock with a focus for meeting on a weekly basis. The project set-up and run by Martock Christian Fellowship (MCF), meets every Thursday evening at the Recreation Ground where hot and cold refreshments are served from the catering trailer.

South Somerset District Council’s Area North Committee recently awarded ArchiesXtra a £500 grant towards a refurbishment of their trailer.

Jamie Bruce, Youth Pastor with MCF said: “The catering trailer has served us well for several years but was in desperate need of a refit. With the grant funding from the District and Parish Councils, together with the continued financial support from Martock Christian Fellowship, we have been able to greatly enhance the kitchen and storage facilities within the trailer. And we are also very grateful to Bakery Roy-Al for their continued support with donations of cakes and pastries. As the weather gets colder, youngsters are particularly appreciative of a hot drink and something to eat.”

The local ward members, Councillors Graham Middleton and Patrick Palmer were pleased to be able to support the project. “ArchiesXtra has proved to be very successful with many of the young people in Martock and it was a pleasure to be able to help the refurbishment of its trailer, enabling the work to continue.”
