Levels & Moors brochure to boost local tourism

SSDC_DiscoverLevels_COVERA fold-out brochure complete with map, beautiful photographs and information about the landscape and communities of the Somerset Levels, has been updated and reissued by South Somerset District Council. The aim is to attract new visitors to discover the countryside and wildlife, heritage and traditional crafts of the area. The revised brochure has been made possible by funding which was allocated by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, to provide a boost for the recovery of tourism after the devastating effects of winter flooding in 2013-2014 which continued to have an impact into a second year. Local Animal Charity Appeal: Young Horses Need a Home

Nikki Haddock with Sydney and IndiaAbandoned with a group of around 14 other pregnant mares, mum Sydney gave birth to her daughter, India in April this year at Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Wambrook, near Chard, Somerset. The Sanctuary took Sydney in after she was seized by trading standards and no owner could be found. Both mother and baby are now in excellent health. Nikki Haddock, Head of Animal Care at Ferne Animal Sanctuary said: “We are now preparing to wean them so they will both be looking for new homes with people who have experience of training and keeping young horses.
