Sunday 5 June was a day to remember for young Yeovil based Melissa Rogers, aged 8, who secured the British Junior Kick Boxing title and qualified to represent Great Britain in the World Championships to be held in October. Melissa, who trains regularly at Yeovil-based Panthers Martial Arts Academy, travelled to West Bromwich in the Midlands where she took part in the WFMC (World Fightsport & Martial Arts) World Championship qualifiers, winning what was only her second ever competition fight. South Somerset District Council’s Streetscene Services have been working with Avon and Somerset Police and the Yeovil One Team to help tackle anti-social behaviour and drug crime in a part of Yeovil. Reports of groups congregating and disposing of drug paraphernalia in the park that can be accessed off Milford Road and Folly Fields has resulted in the District Council cutting back trees and undertaking clearance work to hedges in order to increase visibility in the area.
