One of Yeovil Country Parks most popular trail events returns again this year with hundreds of children expected to take part.
South Somerset District Council’s Yeovil Country Park hosts the self-led Spring Trail on Wednesday 4 April which starts and finishes outside the Ninesprings Café.
The trail costs just £2 per child, with under 2s having free entry. You can take part any time between 11am and the last entry is at 2pm, with the circular trail expected to take 45 minutes to complete.
There is no need to book; just pick up a trail sheet from the ‘Friends of Yeovil Country Park’ stand and set off by following the bunny arrow markers across the meadows and into the woods. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for hidden letters so you can complete the missing word and collect a chocolaty Easter surprise on completion.
There will also be an alternative route for adventurous pushchairs or shorter legs which will bypass any steps and will take approximately 25 minutes to complete.
On your way around, keep an eye out for signs of spring as the trees will be budding, the birds will be singing, the spring bulbs will be coming into flower and you may be lucky enough to see a bumblebee or an early brimstone butterfly in flight.
Countryside Ranger, Kristy Davies said, “The snow on the ground at the beginning of March took the flora and fauna by complete surprise. By the beginning of April everything will be back fighting fit and stronger than ever. The Spring Trail is a great opportunity to visit the Country Park in one of the most interesting, engaging and attractive seasons’’
The ‘Friends of Yeovil Country Park’ Chairman, Gary Cashmore said “A special thank you must go to Crofton Stores for their continued support and once again donating 1000 chocolate eggs. Without their support the Spring Trail event would not be possible. All proceeds from the trail will be channelled into future projects and events at Yeovil Country Park.”
The ‘Friends of Yeovil Country Park’ will be selling handmade knitted spring themed items and their personalised pencils will be available for 30p each. All income from the sale items will be used to fund future events or conservation projects within Yeovil Country Park.
