South Somerset volunteers set to lead the way with new health walks

Screen Shot 2015-03-23 at 15.17.20Following a free training event organised by South Somerset District Council, newly trained volunteers will be able to lead walks in Wincanton, Ilminster, Yeovil, Langport, Martock and Ash. The popular Health Walk leader training day was fully booked and volunteers received information on everything they needed to know to lead a successful walk – including details on risk assessments, route planning, first aid and the benefits of exercise. Showtime – Live variety performances in aid of The Children’s Hospital Charity, Wincanton Memorial Hall, Satruday 28th March

Screen Shot 2015-02-04 at 14.23.42The event has a variety performance theme with a number of different acts performing live. Tickets: £25 includes a Hog Roast. Bar is available at the Memorial Hall. Money raised will be paid directly to The Children’s Hospital Charity (TCHC). TCHC raises vital funds for one of only four stand alone children’s hospitals in the UK – the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and is not as recognised as the others – Great Ormond Street, Alder Hey and Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The charity is busy adding specialist equipment, funding vital research (otherwise unavailable to the NHS), creating single occupancy units for a better experience for patience and family members and making a difference to thousands of lives across the UK.. WW1 project in Wincanton funded by Heritage Lottery Fund

WW1 Project Wincanton 2Over the past three weeks some residents from Carrington House, and Activities Co-ordinator Jazmine Radford, have joined others at the Balsam Centre on a Tuesday morning to learn about the Roll of Honour at the Parish Church and help create work that will form a community textile piece that will be exhibited on Saturday 5th July as part of the ‘Sketches of Wartime Wincanton’ Heritage & Arts project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and South Somerset District Council.
