Turlough the Amur tiger enjoys a cooling dip at Longleat Safari & Adventure Park PIC Ian TurnerLongleat Safari & Adventure Park’s quartet of Amur tigers are making the most of their outdoor pool as temperatures continue to soar across the country. The Wiltshire wildlife attraction is home to four Amur tigers; male Turlough and three females Svetli, Shouri and Soundari. The Amur tiger is the largest of all the big cats and is native to the far east of Russia. “They really love playing in the water,” said Longleat’s John Cracknell. “Amur tigers are actually named after a river which flows through their native territory in Russia, and it’s easy to see why. KEEPERS SAY BABY MEERKAT IS BEYOND COMPARE

Baby meerkatA baby meerkat is making its first public appearance at Longleat Safari & Adventure Park. Although born in May the pup had remained inside an underground den with first-time parents mum Cassie and dad Pipsqueak. However the youngster, who is too young to find out whether it’s a boy or a girl, is now venturing outside for the first time, much to the delight of keepers. “It’s been a long wait but the pup is now loving the outside and can be regularly spotted alongside the six other adults in this group,” said Longleat’s Darren Beasley. Full story: Read more
