District Council helps residents tackle cold homes and high bills

Screen-Shot-2014-06-09-at-14.47.56If you are worried about rising fuel costs this winter or are thinking of improving the energy efficiency of your home, there’s free and impartial advice available to you when you call the Home Energy Team at the Centre of Sustainable Energy (CSE). South Somerset District Council (SSDC), along with other Somerset Local Authorities, work in partnership with the Bristol based charity to provide advice on how to lower energy bills  and improve the energy efficiency of the homes in Somerset. Volunteers recognised for leading the way with Health Walks

badge1Three volunteers in Yeovil have received celebratory pin badges to recognise their dedication to leading Health Walks in Yeovil. The leaders – Jean Phillips and Ian and Shirley Holloway – all took part in South Somerset District Council’s free Walk Leader training course and have since gone on to lead hundreds of walks between them. Health Walks in South Somerset create more opportunities for people to exercise in their local community, reducing the need to travel and providing low cost activity. Full story: Read more

Councillors in favour to seriously consider taking on the running of Westlands Sports and Leisure Complex

SSDCCouncillors of South Somerset District Council’s District Executive Committee have voted in favour of giving serious consideration to taking over the running of the Westlands Sports and Leisure Complex in Yeovil. At yesterday’s meeting, the Members of District Executive Committee agreed to look fully at the possibility of taking on the management of the complex which is currently owned by Finmeccanica – AgustaWestland and is scheduled to close at the end of this month.
