TV advert boosts Somerset’s business credentials

Somerset’s profile as a great business Deborah Meadendestination has been given a boost in and around London thanks to a recent advertising campaign on catch-up TV channels. A ‘Seize the Opportunity’ advert, commissioned by inward investment organisation Into Somerset, highlighted some of the impressive business people and businesses based in the county, including Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden, Glastonbury’s Michael Eavis and the global helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland. Flying by the seat of their pants – ‘Brunel Flyer’ replaces ‘Bath 100’ with new route

brunelflyer1Children’s charity Action Medical Research has been offering cyclists an extensive program of one day bike rides in fantastic cycling locations up and down the country since the very first ‘100’ cycle event that Action ran more than 30 years ago. Now the traditional Bath 100 event has been refreshed and revamped for 2015 with both a new name (the Brunel Flyer) and a new route that takes in some of the best scenery on offer in the West Country. Victory for Somerset’s network of 329 village halls

unnamedA Home Office ruling on licensing fees is being hailed as a victory for Somerset’s network of 329 village halls. Hall committees had feared that Government proposals to set fees locally would lead to an increase in charges. However, after listening to the views of volunteers who run the halls, the Home Office has decided that fees will continue to be set nationally. Community Council for Somerset (CCS) says the decision is a victory for village halls and community buildings. The charity, part of the ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) Network, runs a dedicated advice service for village hall management committee members. Full story: Read more
