South Somerset District Council takes action under new Community Protection Notice

SSDCSouth Somerset District Council (SSDC) is today taking action under the new Community Protection Notice regime contained in the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. Contractors working on behalf of SSDC are attending a site in Yeovil in order to take direct action to remove graffiti from a private wall at Kingston from 9:00am. WATCH OUT FOR BOGUS GAS INSTALLERS

Screen Shot 2015-06-09 at 11.31.37The Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) say there are still too many bogus gas installers out there putting families’ lives at risk with their illegal work – with one in five of these jobs so dangerous that the appliance needed to be immediately switched off because it could have caused a gas explosion. According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), on average there are three successful prosecutions every week against bogus gas installers carrying out gas work in homes when they are not qualified to do so. LANGPORT’S GREAT DEBATE ON ‘NEW MAGNA CARTA’

Screen Shot 2015-06-08 at 09.35.49On Saturday 6 June, Langport enjoyed a stimulating debate on the need for a reformed constitution for the UK.  The 4th annual Bagehot Debate, a flagship event of the 2015 Langport Festival, commemorated the 800th anniversary year of Magna Carta, with two Barons and two students debating the motion ‘It’s time for a new Magna Carta’. The Debate was held in Huish Academy’s Sixth Form auditorium, and, as well as the Debate itself, the audience enjoyed a superb Magna Carta exhibition held by Curry Mallet, Somerset’s only Magna Carta village.
