Aircraft illustrating RNAS Yeovilton’s earliest days and Anglo-Italian helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland’s hi-tech future will underline Air Day’s two main anniversary themes. Separated by decades of history, each type will have a starring role in Air Day’s five-plus hour flying display on Saturday 11 July. Exactly 75 years ago, on 18 June 1940, RNAS Yeovilton was commissioned as HMS Heron. Hawker Sea Hurricanes were among the first aircraft to be subsequently based here and a very rare surviving example is set to take part in the flying display at Air Day. Full story: Read more
West Country Appeal: Cats and Kittens Need Homes
Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Wambrook, near Chard, Somerset is overrun with cats and kittens and has issued a plea for people to come forward to provide homes for them. “Some have been at the Sanctuary for months now and are beginning to show signs of stress” said Tara Nirula, Re-homing Manager. “Riley (pictured) was brought into Ferne as a stray a month ago in a dreadful condition and very thin. “He has a deformed ear which the vet believes is the result of a bad ear infection that was not treated at the time, but this does not cause any problems now. A local start-up business has thanked Mendip District Council’s Environment Health team for their support and assistance, which has helped them get to where they are today. After moving to Somerset, Ian and Sarah Davies of Wookey Farm, Wookey, made the decision to start up their own business producing and selling goat’s cheese and milk. With little knowledge of the food manufacturing industry the couple’s first port of call was to contact Mendip District Council’s environmental health team to find out more about the rules and regulations around producing food products.
