New Chief Executive for Somerset Chamber

image003The Somerset Chamber of Commerce has appointed Dale Edwards as its new CEO. Based in the Blackdown Hills, Dale is a familiar face with many in the South West as he spent six and a half years as the Chief Executive of the Exeter Leukaemia Fund. He officially started his new role at the Chamber on Monday 26th October. Dale brings extensive and varied experience in both commercial and not-for-profit organisations, with proven leadership and business development skills. Government apprenticeship plans must be part of a long term strategy

image003The Somerset Chamber has welcomed the government’s plans to increase the number of quality apprenticeships and give businesses a say on how they are run, as outlined today (21st August) by the Prime Minister, David Cameron. The Chamber CEO warned, however, that this must form part of a long term strategy rather than being a quick-fix for youth unemployment. Neil Murphy, CEO of the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, said, “The Somerset Chamber welcomes the news that apprenticeships are a key government priority and that additional funding will be provided to stimulate take-up in rural communities. Somerset Chamber launches new directory to help bridge the skills gap

Somerset ChamberThe Somerset Chamber of Commerce has launched a new Educational Engagement Directory to help bridge the skills gap and improve engagement between education and employment. The new online directory was announced at the inaugural ‘Bridging the Skills Gap’ breakfast event, which took place at Taunton Rugby Football Club on 16th June. Over 50 business people attended the event, where they heard from Somerset Chamber representatives Neil Murphy and Natasha Braithwaite on the importance of addressing the skills issue and the functionality of the new directory.
