A superb painting of North East interest by one of Britain’s finest marine painters of the 19th Century is coming up for auction at Lawrences in Crewkerne (Somerset) on October 14th. The signed canvas, which measures 65 by 105cm (25 x 41ins), was painted by John Wilson Carmichael and depicts shipping off Tynemouth, with the old priory ruins visible on the headland in the distance. `MOUSEMAN` LOTS GET CHASED BY SOME KEEN CATS AT AUCTION
There were lots made in America, Germany, France, China and India but it took a tiny carved wooden Yorkshire mouse to command some of the biggest prices in Lawrences’ recent Decorative Arts auction. Nine lots of highly distinctive furniture by Robert `Mouseman` Thompson of Kilburn in Yorkshire attracted keen bids and, unusually, there were larger items on offer instead of the more commonly found ashtrays and cheeseboards. DIAMONDS STILL RING ALL THE RIGHT BELLS AT AUCTION
Lawrences’ Spring auction of jewellery in Crewkerne comprised over 400 lots and there were plenty of bidders on the telephones, in the room and online to ensure that the event went well.
