The Hinton St George community has been given a big boost by South Somerset District Council (SSDC) after a 20-year fixed-rate loan of £190,000 for the community shop known as Our SHOP was given to replace its current variable-rate commercial mortgage. Today, 9 February 2016, SSDC and Hinton St. George and Locality Rural Community Services Ltd (HRCS), the Community Benefit Society that owns and operates Our SHOP on behalf of its 380 members, signed the loan agreement. INTERNATIONALLY-RENOWNED FLUTE & HARP DUO TO GIVE CONCERT IN HINTON St. GEORGE
Flautist Sarah Bennington and harpist Fontane Liang will give a recital in south Somerset on Thursday June 5th as part of the 8th Hinton St. George Festival. They will play pieces by a range of composers including Bach and Mozart in the beautiful village Church of St. George with its fine acoustics. Sarah Bennington plays regularly with such orchestras as the London Philharmonic, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the City of Birmingham Orchestra and the Orchestra of Scottish Opera.
