A project to bring contemporary artists into eight museums in Somerset and Devon has been awarded more than £80,000 by Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Muse: Makers in Museums is led by the South West Heritage Trust in partnership with Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Somerset Art Works and the Community Museums Development Officer for Devon. The Octagon Theatre has received £36,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting new project, The Octagon Archive, which will aim to generate an archive for The Octagon Theatre and it’s antecedents following the venue celebrating its 40th Over its 40 year history there has never been an archive of the venues that preceded The Octagon Theatre or of its professional and amateur entertainment history. Over the past three weeks some residents from Carrington House, and Activities Co-ordinator Jazmine Radford, have joined others at the Balsam Centre on a Tuesday morning to learn about the Roll of Honour at the Parish Church and help create work that will form a community textile piece that will be exhibited on Saturday 5th July as part of the ‘Sketches of Wartime Wincanton’ Heritage & Arts project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and South Somerset District Council.
