Collection of Yeovil gloves donated to Community Heritage Access Centre

CHAC Gloves 2A collection of glove samples made at Yeovil gloving company Clothier Giles and part of South Somerset’s industrial heritage have been donated to the District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre. The twelve pairs of gloves, made of different materials and in various designs, were used by salesmen to show the quality and style of Clothier Giles products, to retailers across the country. Timely donation of Yeovil-made clock to CHAC

DSCN1154A working clock which was made in Yeovil has recently been donated to South Somerset District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre (CHAC) after spending more than 75 years at Preston Road Methodist Church in Yeovil. The clock was made by clockmaker and jeweller William James Sherriff of Market Street, Yeovil and was donated to the Methodist Church when it opened in 1938. Full story: Read more

Latest First World War donation tells the story of two Yeovil War Memorial soldiers

The latest donation contains photographs of two soldiers who are on Yeovil’s War Memorial – Ernest ‘Dyke’ Luffman and Earle Mitchell. Their memorial cards and a letter from Ernest’s sister Mabel to a Mr Bird, trying to find out more about how Ernest died, complete the donation. Full story: Read more
