Rare Fighter and World’s First Civil Tiltrotor Join Air Day’s Anniversary Celebrations

Sea Hurricane - Shaun Schofield (Global Aviation Resource)Aircraft illustrating RNAS Yeovilton’s earliest days and Anglo-Italian helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland’s hi-tech future will underline Air Day’s two main anniversary themes.  Separated by decades of history, each type will have a starring role in Air Day’s five-plus hour flying display on Saturday 11 July. Exactly 75 years ago, on 18 June 1940, RNAS Yeovilton was commissioned as HMS Heron. Hawker Sea Hurricanes were among the first aircraft to be subsequently based here and a very rare surviving example is set to take part in the flying display at Air Day. TV advert boosts Somerset’s business credentials

Somerset’s profile as a great business Deborah Meadendestination has been given a boost in and around London thanks to a recent advertising campaign on catch-up TV channels. A ‘Seize the Opportunity’ advert, commissioned by inward investment organisation Into Somerset, highlighted some of the impressive business people and businesses based in the county, including Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden, Glastonbury’s Michael Eavis and the global helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland. Westland 100th anniversary exhibition set to go on display – with your help

2015 is the centenary of the Westland Aircraft WorkWestlands in Yeovil and the anniversary will be commemorated by a display at Yeovil’s Town House along with the production of a souvenir booklet. South Somerset District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre staff are asking whether anyone has any photographs or objects concerning Westland and/or the First World War that they can place in the exhibition.
