Streetscene Services cleanse Odcombe Recreation Ground after unauthorised traveller encampment

Screen-Shot-2014-06-09-at-14.47.56After a recent unauthorised encampment by a group of travellers at Odcombe Recreation Ground, South Somerset District Council’s (SSDC) Streetscene Services have been to the site and removed all waste that was left behind.

A group of travellers entered Odcombe Recreation Ground on Friday 14 August and set up home, until they vacated the site on the morning of Thursday 20 August.

Streetscene Services promptly arrived on site after the travellers had left and six operatives quickly got to work to tidy the area. Cleansing the area included removing 25 bags of rubbish, dog, horse and human excrement plus several gas cylinders. In total, the clean-up operation lasted for four hours.

Councillor Jo Roundell Greene, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Environment said, “Streetscene Services promptly dealt with the cleaning of the site and have left very little trace that the travellers were ever on site. Once again, I am extremely proud of the level of service the team provided and it really shows that everyone who works in the team are really dedicated in taking care of the district to ensure we all have a better quality of life”.

Streetscene Services are responsible for the street cleaning across the district and horticultural maintenance of SSDC owned land. The service takes pride in making sure that the districts streets and open spaces are maintained to the highest standard.
