Street Cleaner coming to Yeovil town this Christmas day

Christmas Working

On Christmas day morning, when most residents are busy unwrapping their presents from Santa, a member of staff from South Somerset District Council’s Streetscene Services will be out making sure Yeovil town centre is kept spotlessly clean.

One street cleaner will be litter picking and sweeping up from the seasonal festivities whilst another member of staff remains on call all day in case of an emergency. Parking attendants will also be working on Boxing Day.

Councillor Jo Roundell Greene, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Economic Development said, “Our staff work tremendously hard all year and Christmas is just another working day for some of them.

“We have a member of staff on call for any kind of emergency, or to respond to the collection of stray dogs, broken glass or discarded needles.

“We are dedicated to keeping the district clean and tidy. I would like to say a personal thank you to all those who work throughout the year to make South Somerset a clean and pleasant place to live and work.”

On Christmas Eve, when you are doing that last bit of shopping or if you are partying late into the night, spare a thought for the street cleaner who will be working on Christmas Day and make sure you put your rubbish in the bins provided.
