With just over a month to go until Somerset Rocks, one of Taunton’s biggest music events, organisers have announced a new addition to its line-up. Philippa Hanna, an acclaimed British singer-songwriter, will open Will Young’s show in Vivary Park on Saturday 27 August 2016. There were lots made in America, Germany, France, China and India but it took a tiny carved wooden Yorkshire mouse to command some of the biggest prices in Lawrences’ recent Decorative Arts auction. Nine lots of highly distinctive furniture by Robert `Mouseman` Thompson of Kilburn in Yorkshire attracted keen bids and, unusually, there were larger items on offer instead of the more commonly found ashtrays and cheeseboards. The South West Heritage Trust will be holding three events as part of the 2016 Festival of Archaeology. Co-ordinated by the Council for British Archaeology, the festival offers hundreds of events nationwide, organised by museums, heritage organisations, universities, and local societies.
