Have your say on the future of affordable housing and housing needs in South Somerset

SSDCSouth Somerset District Council (SSDC) would like residents to have their say on the future of affordable housing in South Somerset and the approach taken by the Council, by considering the draft strategy document and completing a short consultation questionnaire.

The consultation asks residents for their views and opinions on the Draft Housing Strategy Implementation Plan with regard to the future of affordable housing in South Somerset and asks questions such as “What other ways could we use to create more affordable homes?”

The draft plan also identifies key issues and priorities for the area including increasing the supply of affordable housing and making best use of existing housing stock to meet the housing needs of the most vulnerable residents.

Visit www.southsomerset.gov.uk/HousingStrategyConsultation to read the Draft Housing Strategy Implementation Plan and then to complete the consultation questions. Alternatively copies of the strategy are available by telephoning SSDC on 01935 462462.

This is your chance to have your say on another important matter in South Somerset. The consultation closes at noon on 17 September 2014.

Councillor Ric Pallister, Leader of South Somerset District Council and Portfolio Holder for Housing, said, “Any plan will only be as good as the input of those who contribute to it. We need to know if we have got it right, but it is essential for us to know if we have missed out matters that are important to residents.

“Housing and its availability is of critical importance to many South Somerset residents especially those in the 18-34 age range where affordability is a critical factor. Regrettably the Council does not have a magic wand but we do need to hear from all of you who are struggling to meet your housing needs with your suggestions as to anything more that we can realistically do to help.”
