Have you registered to vote?

Mendip District CouncilMendip District Council is encouraging any local residents not yet registered to vote to take advantage of National Voter Registration Day (Thursday 5th February) and go online now to register.

There are fewer than 100 days until voters go to the polls to elect MPs for the Wells and Somerton and Frome constituencies. District council and parish/town council elections are also taking place on the same day.

Anyone not registered can do so at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

To coincide with National Voter Registration Day, Mendip District Council is writing to all households to check that the names included in the register of electors are up to date ahead of the elections on Thursday 7th May 2015.

For people whose details do not appear in the letter, the easiest way to register is to go online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote You will need to enter your National Insurance number and date of birth to register.  People without internet access should ring 01749 341590 or 01749 341295 and the Electoral Services staff at Mendip District Council will send you a form to complete.

Stuart Brown, Mendip District Council Chief Executive and Electoral Registration Officer, said: “Anyone not yet registered to vote should do so as soon as possible so they can have their say on the issues that affect their lives.

“I would urge Mendip residents to use National Voter Registration Day to spread the message amongst family and friends who may not have registered yet that it only takes a few minutes to complete the form online.”
