New Chief Executive for Somerset Chamber

image003The Somerset Chamber of Commerce has appointed Dale Edwards as its new CEO. Based in the Blackdown Hills, Dale is a familiar face with many in the South West as he spent six and a half years as the Chief Executive of the Exeter Leukaemia Fund. He officially started his new role at the Chamber on Monday 26th October. Dale brings extensive and varied experience in both commercial and not-for-profit organisations, with proven leadership and business development skills. Country lanes to the Great Wall; Pub owner goes the extra mile for the NSPCC

Walk smallTen months of training later and six stone lighter, Jeanette Reid, co-owner of The Queens Arms in Corton Denham, Somerset, is set to embark upon a challenge of epic proportions in aid of the NSPCC, travelling to Beijing this month to complete a 76km hike along the Beijing province section of the Great Wall of China. With the added issues of vertigo and a nut allergy to tackle along the way, Jeanette will be overcoming significant personal and physical obstacles during her seven day expedition. Bra re-cycling – busting out all over!

Busting out all overIlminster Rotarians Terry Bate and Linda Piggott have been encouraging friends and relatives to donate their unwanted or unloved bras to help raise vital funds for cancer research. BCR Global Textiles, who help small businesses in Africa, have teamed with UK charity Against Breast Cancer. Through their textile project BCR are preventing valuable textiles going to landfill giving them a new lease of life in developing countries across Africa where bras remain too expensive to produce.
