The Bishop’s Palace in Wells announced today that it will be holding a public naming competition to find names for their new pair of swans.
The new swans arrived at the Palace last Thursday 9th May, having been re-homed by the charity Swan Rescue South Wales. They were blessed by The Right Reverend Ruth Worsley, Bishop of Taunton, before being released into the Moat.
The Palace is inviting the public to send in their suggestions for swan names via their Facebook, Twitter or Instagram accounts, by email [email protected] or at the Palace Shop.
The winning names will be announced on Tuesday 21st May.
The new pair have already begun their training in how to ring the bell for food, with in-house Swan Trainer Moira Anderson taking them through their paces. The Palace currently has a Swan Blog on their website with updates on the training progress.
The centuries-old tradition of bell-ringing swans on the Moat was begun by the daughter of Lord Auckland, who was Bishop at the Palace in the 1800’s.
