Since its launch just over one year ago, more than 1,000 residents from across South Somerset have indicated that they like the South Somerset District Council Facebook page and regularly receive the latest news on their Facebook timeline.
Launched in July 2014, the Facebook page was created to keep residents up to date with the latest news, events and job opportunities from the Council as well as providing useful information about council services.
The Communications Team at SSDC manage the page and welcome feedback and comments on the page. Martin Hacker, Communications Officer at SSDC said, “We identified the need for a Facebook page just over a year ago and believe that we are now reaching more than an extra 1,000 local residents than previously. It’s important to ensure residents are kept up to date and know what their local council is doing. We welcome and invite people to comment and communicate with us on our social media sites”.
Councillor Ric Pallister, Leader of South Somerset District Council added, “Communicating, informing and reaching as many residents as we possibly can is a vital task for SSDC especially in this changing electronic world. Our task is to ensure that we can reach all our residents in a way that is easy for them, be that by traditional means or through the use of modern technology. Our communications team implemented the Facebook page with that very much in mind. With a social media reach of around 5,000 residents before sharing and retweets, we consider this as a very important channel of communication”.
