This year’s ceremony incorporated a total of 16 categories celebrating the excellence of building quality in a variety of projects from large commercial, education and housing projects, to domestic refurbishments.
Mendip District Council’s Building Excellence Awards also recognise and emphasise the importance of the council’s Building Control service in creating a high quality, sustainable built environment in the district.
The council’s Building Control team helps to ensure better design and construction by working in cooperation with developers, designers and builders to avoid costly corrections during construction and to make sure projects comply with the highest standards of safety, sustainability and accessibility.
Nigel Hunt, Mendip District Council’s building control manager, said: “The standard of entries was once again extremely high, showing the excellent work that is being carried out in Mendip.
“All the finalists deserve recognition for their great work in helping to improve building standards, boosting sustainability and efficiency and showing that despite a difficult economic backdrop, standards do not have to slip. Our congratulations go to the finalists – and especially the winners and those who were highly commended.”
Around 200 construction professionals and customers attended the ceremony.
Anna Thompson, Director of LABC Training, presented the winners with their awards which were specially commissioned plaques from Black Dog of Wells.
All of the winners and highly commended will now be nominated for the LABC South West Regional Awards which take place on Friday, 7 June 2013 in Torquay.
The complete list of winners, finalists and project descriptions can be found on the Mendip District Council website.
