Local adventure travel company contender for prestigious award

British Travel AwardsLocal adventure travel company, Oasis Overland has been named by the British Travel Awards (BTAs) as one of the contenders for the Best Escorted Adventure Holiday Company.

Based at Henstridge Marsh, Oasis Overland specialises in operating adventure tours and expeditions. The company was founded 17 years ago by Chris Wrede and Steve Crowhurst who started out offering one overland trip between Istanbul and Cairo. Nowadays Chris heads up a small team of staff in the UK and a fleet of 12 overland vehicles and their crew that take travellers on adventures throughout Africa, South America and Central Asia. Their wide range of overland journeys include an 11 day tour of Bolivia, a 35 day trip along the Silk Road and an epic 39 week Trans Africa Expedition.

Director, Chris Wrede said “We are very excited to be included in the British Travel Awards this year. At Oasis Overland we pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and the value for money we offer our travellers. Our overland journeys give people the opportunity to really explore different countries and to learn about their cultures, not just pass through a place to see the sights. On our trips you have the security of travelling with a group – people who often become friends for life! Travel can be a life-changing experience and we believe we offer just that.

Many travellers come back to us for a second or third adventure and a great deal of our clients have been recommended to book with us. With so many loyal Oasis travellers we are confident they will vote for us!”

BTA’s chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “Oasis Overland is to be congratulated on reaching the voting stage of the prestigious British Travel Awards, the largest consumer voted awards programme in the UK. The BTAs winning accolade is the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer. There are more companies in the competition than ever before, and some great vote-incentive prizes for consumers. We will be promoting the voting period to over seven million potential voters via our media partnerships and direct email campaigns to previous voters and this year we are expecting a record number of votes, so good luck to Oasis Overland!”

The winners will be the companies with the most votes – in 2013 over one million votes were cast with the voting process and results scrutinized and audited by independent auditors Deloitte LLP. The winners of the 2014 British Travel Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 26 November at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London.
