Siret, in Romania, is the Douzelage partner town of Sherborne in and 1990 it had a very large orphanage which featured in the “Challenge Anneke” series. The orphanage had hundreds of children in it and conditions were appalling, but whilst time has moved on and a lot of good work has been done, Siret is left with an old psychiatric hospital with 120 patients, formerly residents of the orphanage. Considerable effort has been put into the care and rehabilitation of these “young people” but it is a struggle that the town and the director of its hospital Tiberiu Rotaru are continuously working to improve. ENDANGERED VULTURE CHICK HATCHES AT LONGLEAT
An endangered African vulture chick has hatched at Longleat Safari & Adventure Park. The African white backed vulture hatched out last month after a 58-day incubation. The chick is the third to have been reared successfully at Longleat in recent years but it’s a first for this pair of birds. OUTDOOR EDUCATION AT ITS BEST!
Bruton School for Girls is launching a series of new Eco – Outdoor Education Workshops for visiting school children, taking place on Monday 17th June and Monday 24th June 2013. Set within the beautiful Somerset countryside, the workshops will be made up of three activities with small groups of 10 and 11 year old children from local primary and middle schools. Today’s event was with Oakfield Academy from Frome.
