Organisations in Somerset join forces to launch a new support service for young people

Pathways to IndependenceThis week sees the launch of the new P2i (Pathway to Independence) support service for young people across Somerset. P2i is an innovative partnership project between Somerset County Council, the five District Councils (Sedgemoor, South Somerset, Mendip, Taunton Deane and West Somerset) and a number of housing providers. The P2i service offers support for homeless and vulnerable young people aged 16 to 24. The service will cover joint needs assessments, family mediation, housing advice, emergency accommodation, supported housing, floating support and signposting to other services. STUDENT’S FISH DISH WINS TOP CHEF’S COMPETITION

Photo 2Professional Cookery student Beckii Goffe has won the final of a competition run by top chef Mark Hix. The contest was part of Lyme Regis’ Mackerel Festival and supported by Mr Hix, chef, award winning food writer and owner of the Hix Oyster and Fish House in the town. Beckii (16) of Sherborne was one of just three finalists who made it to the cook off on Friday 12 July 2013 on Lyme Regis seafront. Full Story: Read More

Birchfield School pupils and South Somerset District Council Countryside Rangers join forces to protect Yeovil Country Park

SSDCAfter a school visit to Yeovil Country Park to visit the woodland as part of a special geography study week, class 4 pupils at Birchfield Primary School were disappointed to encounter large amounts of dog poo, spoiling their visit to the Country Park and limiting the environmental studies that they could carry out. The student and teachers who visited the park felt so strongly about the problem that four students put pen to paper and wrote to Councillor Tony Lock asking for more bins and posters in the Country Park advising dog owners to clear up after their pets.
