Royal Air Force AssociationSeptember, with its history of the Battle of Britain, is a very special month for RAFA. Pursuing our need to raise funds to provide welfare for current and former members of the RAF and their dependents, a host of willing and polite people will be collecting house to house in the area in and around Sturminster Newton in the first two weeks of the month. At the same time we have been asked to represent RAFA at the Waterloo Show and Military Fair to be held on the Earl of Shaftesbury’s Estate at Wimborne St Giles on Sunday 15th September from 9.00am to 6.00pm. It will be very large event with The Blades formation aerobatic team, massed military bands and pipes and drums, the Kings Troop, Royal Artillery, White Helmets motorcycle display, Red Devils parachute demonstration, Royal Navy action field guns, the Military Wives Choir, static military displays, clay shooting and many, many more attractions. It will be a great day out for the whole family.

LONGLEAT MONKEYS GO APE FOR ICE CREAM VAN

Monkey with ice lolly at Longleat PIC Ian TurnerLongleat’s monkeys are famed for their mischievous behaviour, but even they could hardly believe their luck when an ice cream van entered their drive-through enclosure. Safari keepers at the famous Wiltshire wildlife attraction had enlisted the help of local ice-cream seller Colin Robb to provide some cooling treats for their troop of rhesus monkeys. Despite the obvious attractions of flakes and ice cream cones however, the monkeys were restricted to a choice of special fruit-based ice lollies – which seemed to prove equally popular.
