New Facility is Pitch Perfect for South Somerset

Hockey lo res2Balls will be fizzing along the new surface when the highly anticipated Artificial Grass Pitch at Yeovil Recreation Centre officially opens on Saturday 21 September. Everyone is invited to celebrate the occasion and there will be the opportunity to take part in ‘taster sessions’ including Rush Hockey and Junior Hockey before the ribbon is cut at 10.30am. The opening is the culmination of the £817,000 project which has been led by South Somerset District Council. A chance to shape your neighbourhood

Mendip District CouncilA consultation is being held in Mendip to allow residents of Shepton Mallet to have their say on the boundary of the new Neighbourhood Plan, which is being prepared by the town council. The Localism Act 2011 introduced new rights and powers for communities to shape new development by preparing Neighbourhood Plans for their areas. KEEPERS KEEP THUNDER BIRDS IN THE PINK

IT_Flamingo Chick_01Five flamingo chicks are having to be hand reared by keepers at Longleat Safari & Adventure Park after the eggs were abandoned by their parents during a thunderstorm. Keepers at the Wiltshire wildlife park are using syringes to feed the endangered Chilean flamingos after all the eggs were artificially hatched in an incubator. Adult flamingos build a volcano-shaped nest and lay a single egg, which they then usually sit on for around a month. Full Story: Read More
