Funding from the International Tree Foundation helps enhance Pit Wood for years to come

ITF Planting 7 - 11-02-15One-thousand trees are being planted at Pit Wood, part of Ham Hill Country Park thanks to a grant from the International Tree Foundation (ITF). Hazel, oak, rowan, hawthorn, field maple and wayfaring trees are being planted by Rangers from Ham Hill Country Park, volunteers and representatives from the ITF today (Wednesday 11 February). The trees will ensure that the woods are enhanced for years to come. Ranger Paul McNeill and the Friends of Ham Hill Country Park submitted an application to the ITF for £1,000 of funding to help purchase new plantings for Ham Hill Country Park. Full story: Read more

Westland 100th anniversary exhibition set to go on display – with your help

2015 is the centenary of the Westland Aircraft WorkWestlands in Yeovil and the anniversary will be commemorated by a display at Yeovil’s Town House along with the production of a souvenir booklet. South Somerset District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre staff are asking whether anyone has any photographs or objects concerning Westland and/or the First World War that they can place in the exhibition. VULCAN SET TO ROAR AGAIN AT AIR DAY

Vulcan XH588 - Paul JohnsonXH558, the world’s only flying Avro Vulcan ‘V-bomber’, is RNAS Yeovilton Air Day’s first confirmed flying display participant. Now 55 years old, this thunderous Cold War icon will be among the largest, heaviest and noisiest types involved in this year’s show on Saturday 11 July. XH558 is a globally unique survivor and has brought Air Day to a standstill on each of its previous appearances at RNAS Yeovilton.
