Winning the supreme championship at the Dairy Show is the pinnacle of competition – but the pairs and heifer championships are all about future profitability. Often edged out of the spotlight by the supreme championship, the interbreed pairs and heifer champions give a much better insight into the overall quality of the herd, says judge James Warren. Bumper Day at Animal Sanctury Charity Fun Dog Show
Exceptional weather saw a bumper crowd attending the recent Ferne Animal Sanctuary Fun Dog Show in Wambrook, near Chard, Somerset, enabling the Sanctuary to raise just under £3,000. Alana Medforth from the Fundraising and Marketing Department said: “With 124 dogs attending, entry numbers for all the different classes on the day were high – along with the temperature. So much so, that we had a VIP “Doggy Cooling Area” where the dogs could cool off in a paddling pool full of water under their own private gazebo. Full story: Read more

Art & Craft Exhibition in St Peter & St Paul’s Parish Church, South Petherton. Showing the talents of a variety of folk in our parish with as many as 30 different exhibits. A precursor to the Somerset Art Weeks in October, this is our way of celebrating those who are really good at what they do and would like to let others see their finished wares and encourage others to have a go and perhaps start a new hobby.
