Local Animal Charity Appeal: Young Horses Need a Home

Nikki Haddock with Sydney and IndiaAbandoned with a group of around 14 other pregnant mares, mum Sydney gave birth to her daughter, India in April this year at Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Wambrook, near Chard, Somerset. The Sanctuary took Sydney in after she was seized by trading standards and no owner could be found. Both mother and baby are now in excellent health. Nikki Haddock, Head of Animal Care at Ferne Animal Sanctuary said: “We are now preparing to wean them so they will both be looking for new homes with people who have experience of training and keeping young horses. Leweston School Host Cake Sale in Aid of Macmillan Cancer Support

Junior School Cake Sale 1Leweston School proudly supported Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ by organising a coffee morning at the Junior Department and cake sale at the Senior School. The pupils donated a great variety of delicious cakes and other treats all of which were too tempting to resist as they were sold and enjoyed equally as quickly. The school is delighted that their baking efforts raised over £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thomas Franks Raise £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support 

IMG_5561Chilton Cantelo School’s catering team, Thomas Franks, put on a morning of games, quizzes, coffee, cake and a prize draw for a special cake to raise £300 for Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning last Friday. The school’s Merlin Café was filled with pupils, parents, staff and school friends making donations towards the charity. The raffle prize was a magnificently detailed and elaborate cake made by hand by Mrs Neville who regularly makes cakes like this for the school. The cake draw winner was Mrs Roberts, school receptionist.
