Call for information over missing historic wellhead

Wellhead AppealInformation concerning an historic wellhead, thought to be an early example of Venetian Byzantine, is being sought by Hestercombe Gardens, near Taunton in Somerset. The wellhead was originally placed in the Formal Garden at Hestercombe by the Hon Mr and Mrs Portman in 1904. It was later noted in two of the four pre-war articles that were written on Hestercombe by Country Life in 1927. Full story: Read more

Community loan signed for Hinton St George community shop

Hinton St George ShopThe Hinton St George community has been given a big boost by South Somerset District Council (SSDC) after a 20-year fixed-rate loan of £190,000 for the community shop known as Our SHOP was given to replace its current variable-rate commercial mortgage. Today, 9 February 2016, SSDC and Hinton St. George and Locality Rural Community Services Ltd (HRCS), the Community Benefit Society that owns and operates Our SHOP on behalf of its 380 members, signed the loan agreement.
