Tails will certainly be wagging on Sunday 11 August as dogs of all shapes, sizes and colours compete to become the ‘Best in Show’ at the Ham Hill Country Park Fun Dog Show.

Now in its fourth year, this popular event will be held in the plateau fields of South Somerset District Council’s Ham Hill Country Park and will be packed with lots of fun activities for everyone; two and four-legged!

The show will include 10 novelty showing classes, have-a-go agility, food & refreshments and stalls to browse. A great day out for all the family and four-legged friends.

The ‘Ham Hill Challenge’ will once again test the partnership of dogs and their owners with a trio of doggie activities including a timed sausage race, a new obedience challenge and the ever-entertaining temptation alley.

Event organiser, Donna McNeill, said: “This is a great way to relax and enjoy time with your dog and your family in the stunning countryside of Ham Hill Country Park.

“The show will raise much needed funds for two local charities; the Friends of Ham Hill, a group of volunteers dedicated to helping the ranger team to look after and improve the park and also Ferne Animal Sanctuary which is currently celebrating eighty years of helping unwanted and abandoned animals.

“This year we are delighted to welcome Yeovil Agility Club who will be running have-a-go agility throughout the day and Ferne will be giving an educational demonstration to encourage responsible behaviour around dogs.”

Spruce up your spaniels and tidy up your terriers! Car parking (in the field opposite the plateau fields) and entry to the show ground are free with dog show classes costing £1.50 per dog per class and the Ham Hill Challenge costing £1 for one challenge or £2.50 for all three. Gates open at 10am with the showing classes commencing at 10.30am.

Councillor Mike Best, portfolio holder for Health & Well-Being at South Somerset District Council, said: “Events like this are a great way of bringing communities together and really showcase the fantastic site that we own and manage at Ham Hill. We want to enable quality cultural, leisure and sport activities throughout South Somerset and this has always been a popular summer event for families and their pets.”

Ham Hill Country Park Ranger, Paul McNeill, added: “The Ham Hill Dog Show is such a wonderful community event, which attracts lots of local people. Nearly all the rangers have dogs and we are all looking forward to another great family fun day.”

The event and all the classes are sponsored by some wonderful businesses and individuals to whom the organisers are eternally grateful.
