Everyone can have a smashing time at new Family Badminton sessions

South Somerset Community Badminton NetworkWith the Commonwealth games around the corner, South Somerset Community Badminton Network, Westfield Academy and Yarlington Housing Group are joining forces to promote brand new Family Badminton Sessions in Yeovil.

Starting on 28 June, qualified coaches will be on hand every Saturday morning from 9 to 10am to help families improve their technique and to make sure they have fun whilst playing the game.

Steve Gass, School Games Organiser at South Somerset District Council explains more about the idea of Family Badminton, “The Commonwealth Games will help to raise the profile of Badminton in Great Britain this summer. Badminton is one of the easiest and most enjoyable sports for families to play and we want to offer them the chance to come and try it. It’s perfect for mums and dads and the children.”

“There will be a social element to the sessions too, as families can play together or play against other families.”

Ellie Turner, Community Partnership Coordinator at Yarlington Housing Group said, “We are really excited that Yarlington residents will be able to benefit from this project and enjoy learning badminton as a family.”

Richard Scott, PE co-ordinator at Westfield Academy said, “Family Badminton is a great opportunity for whole families to come together through sport. Here at Westfield we show our support in trying to provide families with the opportunities to play consistent recreational sport. Spaces are limited, so any families that are interested will need to book their place each week by contacting me on 01935 446857.”

Councillor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at South Somerset District Council added, “We aim to offer affordable sporting opportunities for all residents and these Family Badminton sessions are a good way to learn new skills and get active with the whole family.”
