An ever aging population and a continually growing sector mean that prospects for care workers are extremely good at the moment.
With different care options evolving, being a care worker does not simply mean working in a care home anymore, as Paul explains:
“The varied care options that are now available mean that carers coming into the profession also have different career choices. In addition to working in a residential care home there is now the opportunity to do 24 hour live-in care, where the carer lives with the service user enabling them to remain in their own home with their treasured possessions. This is a service which we have seen grow considerably in Dorset .”
“These different options help with the longevity that a career in care can bring. But the knowledge and experience gained can also be the starting point to pursuing a career in nursing. Many of our former live-in carers have chosen this route as a number of character traits needed for a job as a carer and a nurse are the same.”
With the advancement of vocational learning at schools and more companies offering training in house, Sunshine Care is hoping that many people will use National Careers week to look into pursing a career in the care industry.
