Come and have a hoot at the Yeovil Country Park Bird Trail

This February half term between Saturday 16th and Sunday 24th, South Somerset District Council’s Countryside Rangers are running their self-led bird trail that will test your bird identification skills as you follow the bird arrows into woods of Ninesprings.

Mandarin ducks that are commonly seen in Ninesprings.

As you venture along the route, don’t forget to look up into the trees to find the hidden birds that the rangers positioned. Don’t forget to bring a pencil so you match the name of the bird to the clues on your trail sheet.

You can collect your trail leaflet from the Ninesprings Café between 9am and 3pm. Each sheet costs £1 so please drop your money into the box provided upon collection. No change will be available so be sure to bring the correct amount!

The trail will start at 9am and finish at 3pm on Sundays and weekdays. On Saturday 16th February and Saturday 23rd February the trail will be up and running from 11am to 3pm to accommodate Park Run.

Countryside Ranger Kristy Davies said, “Ninesprings is the perfect place for bird spotting, the mix of woodlands, meadows and ponds allows for a great diversity of birdlife. We hope by illustrating some of the more frequently seen birds for our younger visitors, we might just be inspiring the next generation of wildlife enthusiasts. You never know you may see some of the birds in real life if you keep your eyes peeled!”

“Councllor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at South Somerset District Council, added: “Yeovil Country Park is the ideal place to get out into the countryside this half term and enjoy the offerings the park has. The Bird Trail that has been organised by the Rangers will keep all the family busy and you can also pop into the café once you have finished”.

Once you have completed the trail and have filled in all of the bird names, return to the café to check your answers where you could enjoy a hot drink to warm you up!

Delicious hot drink specials will be available from Ninesprings Café on weekends and weekdays including Raspberry Hot Chocolate (a heart-warming hot chocolate with raspberry syrup topped with whipped cream and raspberry sauce) and Cupid’s Cappuccino (cappuccino with a blend of almond and cherry syrup).
