The Octagon Theatre is delighted to be presenting two fantastic productions from Tall Stories (the creators of ‘The Gruffalo’ stage show) this season. Two classic children’s stories will be brought to life live on stage: ‘The Snail and the Whale’ and ‘Room on the Broom’. The productions are originally children’s books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler and are firmly established as family favourites at bed time. ‘The Snail and the Whale’ is a story all about a tiny snail who hitches a lift on the back of a humpback whale and has to save the day when the whale gets beached. Historical Prague Inspires Budding Artists
Forty-five Strode College Art and Design students visited Prague this month to seek inspiration for their work from the culture of this vibrant and historical city. Head of Art and Design and trip leader Petrina Rochester explained: “The educational visits we offer to students make a clear and positive impact on their work, in terms of vision and ambition. Following these exciting trips, the quality of work generated by students shows that they’ve become more receptive to new ideas. I’m sure we’ll see Prague references in the students’ work in the End of Year show this June.” Full story: Read more
TALENTED YEOVIL COLLEGE STUDENTS AWARDED ARTS ASSOCIATION GRANTS
Two talented Yeovil College Art & Design students have been presented with grants by the Yeovil Community Arts Association (YCAA). Each year, the YCAA raises money through its annual, international writing competition, the Yeovil Literary Prize. Writers are invited to submit poems, short stories and novels for a small fee. After paying the prizes and the judges’ fees, the revenue then contributes to supporting a range of arts and artists in the area.
