The Royal Photographic Society’s International Print Exhibition 159 opens at the Museum of Somerset from 14 January to 11 March 2017. Launched in 1854 and now in its 159th edition, it is the longest-running exhibition of its kind in the world. This year’s exhibition features an eclectic mix of work by 75 photographers from 16 countries, carefully selected by a panel of experts, and will provide a fascinating insight into the range and diversity of photography today. From teacher to florist, one mum decided to make the most of her maternity leave and started a new career and business following the birth of her son. Katherine Shean, who until recently had been known as ‘Mrs Shean’ in primary classrooms across Dorset and Somerset, now runs Spring Rise Floral Design from her studio and cottage in Bourton, Dorset. Tree House – a play for today
South Somerset District Council Arts Development is supporting the work of local playwright Chris Fogg to bring his play Tree House to local communities. The play is based in part on a true story in the village where Chris lives on the border of West Dorset and South Somerset and tells of the fortunes of three people – Robbie, Jane and Alan – whom we first encounter as children playing in a tree house on the edge of a village.
